Palmer Lake CO

Palmer Lake CO is located north of Colorado Springs. Named for General Palmer who founded both Colorado Springs and the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad, the town was originally built as a health resort and summer vacation spot.

During the Depression, townspeople dreamed up and built the Palmer Lake Star on Sundance Mountain, measuring 500' across and using 91 lightbulbs. It was rebuilt in 1976 for the Bicentennial. The equipment that had been hauled by hand over three months the first time, were air-lifted by helicopter in three hours the second. The Star is lit during the month of December and Memorial Day Weekend.
